In many parts of the country, the weather is getting much cooler these days, making it hard for some to enjoy what may have become routine walks outside. Many of us exercise less in the colder months as we try to minimize time spent outside and as our daylight hours decrease. But don’t worry, we have a solution!
Some malls have morning walking programs or are open before the stores inside begin operating, giving you some time to enjoy the climate controlled air for a stroll before the shoppers crowd the place up. If you use a walker or a cane, the mall is an especially good place to walk because the floor is even and smooth. With or without these items, spend some time in the mall on your walking mission. Try this out a few mornings this week and try to make these mall walks a routine (or a weekend routine if you prefer).
This is also a nice time to spend time with friends - bring them along to chat during the walk! It’s always motivational to have a partner in the activity. Additionally, if you want to combine your love for shopping with some walking, go to the mall while the stores are open or get your walk in just before they open up. Just make sure to set two limits: the minimum amount of time you’d like to walk and the maximum amount you want to spend!
If your work hours are such that you can’t go in the morning, go walk the mall later at night. Malls generally keep their gates open for an hour after the shops close. Just make sure to get the mall’s operating hours before you show up!
Check out this week’s Word of the Week, hope.
