New Sessions Means New Friends
This week, I had a new group start training in a new area. How exciting, not because of the business, but for me, I get so excited and say to myself, ”Awh goodie. New people to play with!”
For me, new people are all about learning about others’ lives, what makes them tick, what gets them excited and what doesn’t. I love to know more about the lives they lead, what they enjoy, their families, or if there was one thing they could change in their lives, what it would be.
You can learn so much, just from listening to another human’s experiences and how s/he lives her/his life. There is no right or wrong on how we live our lives - just different perceptions on what we want out of life.
All Systems Go
Our first session with the new group was about gathering everybody’s health status to confirm they are suitable to attend our fitness sessions. I welcome people of all health and fitness levels as trainees, of course, but I want to make sure that no one’s needs are overlooked by participating in a particular group that makes them uncomfortable.
As we were meeting everyone there was one lady in particular that I felt I had met before somewhere. Since that session, I had been racking my brain as to where I knew her from.
By the second session it was all systems go and much more relaxed, finding out more about each other and just having a lot of fun.
And then it dawned on me! It would have been about 20 years ago when I was living in a coastal town about 100 km from where I live now, and this familiar looking lady and I had played netball together with the same group of friends.
We weren’t that close then, and not once had I thought of her, but then here she was standing right in front of me!
A new found relationship
After our session, she and I had a quick catch up on our old friend group: where everybody is today, what they are up to, etc. Some amazing news and also some sad news.
All in all it was quite amazing to hear how things had panned out after all these years. Now this lady and I have connected more than we ever did all those years back. Whether or not there’s a reason for this, I’m looking forward to spending more time with her and building a greater bond from our new found relationship.
I am very fortunate this week, not only to have met some new, wonderful people, but also to have had the opportunity to connect with somebody I didn’t get to know very well 20 years ago.
Drop me a line in the comments to tell me about meeting up with any old friends in your life. I’d love to hear if you have experienced connecting with a past acquaintance. Also, how are you making an effort to make new friends?
May your week be filled with love and happiness!
