Tips

This week, treat your body a bit more like you’d treat a nice car: with regular tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotations and a nice spin out every now and again. These three tricks of the trade will keep your body looser and more comfortable.

1. Regular Service. Your mechanic stays familiar with your car and you should try to meet up with your health practitioner, physio, masseuse, naturo-path, or whoever it is that regularly helps you move your body around - maybe just an active friend! Do this at least quarterly throughout the year.  We need to keep our bodies maintained for optimal health.
2. Apply Grease.  Don’t forget to give your bodies parts the grease they need every now and then.  Rotate your arms in a circular motion, first forward and then backward; next, rotate the hips in a circular motion - same with knees and ankles.  Move all your joints. Try 10 rotations, twice.

3. Regular Oil Changes Keep your water fluids up to at least 2 litres per day.  By doing this you won’t stall out: you’ll help reduce your body seizing up and cramping.
4. Turn the motor over every now and then.  If you know your motor may be stationary for a long period of time (e.g. long distance flight, sitting on a lounge for extended periods, long car ride, etc.) don’t forget to get up every now and then and get the blood flowing.  We need blood pumping through our veins to feel more alive, to carry oxygen and to do much more.
Read Fitness For All this week to learn how one person’s irregular bodily servicing resulted in a load of discomfort and how these tips can help you avoid the same.
