Do you dread the discomfort of bending down to pick up things from the floor or other places around the house? Do you spend time eyeing objects trying to figure out how you are going to reach them? Marsha, a long-term customer at More of Me to Love, had similar concerns. She came to me with a question: “How do I pick the correct reacher aid for my needs?”
Excellent question, I thought - but I did not have a clear answer for her. So I began researching what the most important factors are when deciding on getting a reacher, or two, for our unique needs.
More of Me to Love has a carefully selected set of reaching aids satisfying virtually all reaching desires - but navigating amongst them can be overwhelming so let’s answer some simple questions!
How far do you usually need to reach?
If 22-24 inches of extra length is sufficient, we recommend picking the Raptor or the Matey Pocket-Fold Reaching Aid. If your would like the reacher to grab further objects up to 33 inches, go with the Ultra Reacher or the Matey Reaching Aid.
How big are the objects that you generally need to pick up?
Standard jaw opening for reachers is 2.5 inches. If you would like to grab bigger objects, select the Ultra Reacher with a 3” grip.
Is it important that your reacher is lightweight?
Our lightest reacher is the Raptor Reacher, recommended for anyone who has limited arm strength.
Would you like a portable reacher?
Of course, all reachers are portable. But not all of them were specially designed to be carried anywhere, even in your pocket! The Matey Pocket-Folding Reaching Aid folds to less than 13 inches making it easy to take with you wherever you go.
Are you on a budget?
Our best value for a reacher is the Raptor Reacher. This reacher is made of plastic, but serves as a handy and sturdy aid.
What other features are important to you?
If the handle of the reacher is important to you, go with one of the Matey aids as they have ergonomically designed handles. If you often need to pick up metal objects, we recommend the Matey Reaching Aid as it has a built-in magnet at the end of its grip. If you have been frustrated in the past because you dropped objects while trying to move them closer to you, the Ultra Reacher can provide great benefit due to its non-slip rubber jaws.
That was a lot of information, I know. Here is a summary of the most important features of our high quality reachers:

And finally, a safety tip! Please make sure you don’t reach for heavy items that could fall on your head of the grip of the reacher lets loose.
What other questions would you ask in picking the right reacher? What features are important to you that have not been mentioned here?
