At More of Me to Love we believe in promoting health. In fact, it’s one of our core principles. Our way of doing that, however, is somewhat unconventional: we don’t promote dieting and weight loss techniques.
Instead, we promote a concept called Health at Every Size*, which is the notion that people can be healthier in the bodies they have rather than aim for skinnier bodies that are theoretically healthier because they’re skinnier. This is in line with the community ideals we talk about like Size Acceptance.
Well, one part of being healthier at whatever size you are is doing the kinds of things that promote Heart Health.
Your heart, as I’m sure you know, pumps the blood throughout your body, moving it through your viens so that it can reach the rest of your body. As you’ve probably noticed, when you move more or more frequently, your heart beats faster. This in turn causes your blood to move about your body faster, all of which is good for you.
One great way to raise your heart rate is just to walk more and longer distances. An excellent way of keeping track of how far you’re walking is a Pedometer. A pedometer measures the number of steps you take while wearing it on your hip. If you walk 500 steps one day, great! The next day, shoot for 600. If you don’t reach those steps in your day , take a lap around the block and see where you get. Don’t worry about speed or even getting winded. Just take it slow and take those steps. Over time, it will get easier as you build up steps. All of this raises your heart rate and heart health and is good for you.
If you need assistance walking that’s okay, too! Consider using a Cane or Walker to help you get around. Just try not to become stationary due to mobility impairment. Keep on moving because movement is good for you!
Simply can’t get around anymore? Then try things that are stationary, like hand exercisers.
If you’re not interested in walking around but maybe you’re more of a biker, try our Pedal Exerciser. This stationary pedaler can be set up right in front of the television and used anytime. This is an amazing way to get your blood pumping and work towards Heart Health.
There are many other great tools to help you exercise which you can find in our Healthy Living section.
