If you haven’t seen this incredible video yet of Susan Boyle shocking the world on Britain’s Got Talent, you should watch it.

Though I knew what to expect (this is a hot topic right now), I was truly stunned. That this woman could have been thought of as a failure and a joke before she began singing is a shame. Few doubt that those prejudices result from her physical appearance. She was heavyset and didn’t look like a model. Young girls in the audience were laughing at her, and as she mentioned in the lead-up to her singing, she’d never been kissed.

But boy did she have a good attitude, and wow were those some pipes on her. That was incredible, and it was wonderful listening to the judges come clean about their unwarranted skepticism - skepticism purely based on her appearance.

What do you think about this video and Susan Boyle’s experience?

I like the message of the Susan Boyle story: she stood in front of so many people with confidence, they were all skeptical and she shocked them all with her amazing voice. I like how this shows thousands of women (and men) in the world that it is never to late to discover that special something amazing about us. And we then proudly stand up and show everyone how special we are, just like Susan did. And yes, I truly do believe that we all have a special talent that can impact the lives of others in a positive way (whether one life or thousands, it counts and matters.
