Present
Definition: the period of time existing or occurring now

An aunt once gave me a book of Taoist meditations during a point in my life when I was having a lot of anxiety attacks about all sorts of things. She thought the meditations might help me clear my brain of all the fear and clutter. For me, focusing on a meditative thought brings me to the present and helps me let go of the anxiety.
It wasn’t until I had something specifically forcing me to think about the present that I realized that we spend an awfully large amount of our time on the past and future. We think about it, we talk about it, we plan around it. That’s all well and good, but what about right now?
I fully believe in learning from mistakes and thinking long-term and yada yada yada. But I also believe that we could all benefit from getting outside our heads every now and then so that we can just enjoy our lives. As they’re happening. Right. Now. The present.
I’m not suggesting you all go out and become devout Taoists. I’m just putting it out there, in cyber-world, that maybe you might enjoy and benefit from finding 5 minutes (or longer!) in your day to block out the past, block out the future, and focus solely on the present. It’s not as easy as it sounds, but if you take the time to do it, surely you will be delighted with the results.
