Consider this...

We all cringe at the thought of it. Patience? Really? I am so patient. Right? I suppose maintaining a level of sanity during my reoccurring road rage does not count. But, how dare I suggest that we be more patient. I mean, we wait in long lines at the post office without going entirely bonkers. Maybe I mean a different kind of patience. The kind of patience that is offered gracefully, not by obligation nor by the thought of being arrested.

Do we offer a serene sense of awaiting? The kind that is devoid of the huffs and puffs, the tapping foot, and the glaring eyes. You know what I’m talking about. Whether it be with family, friend, or foe, has our patience with them been less than graceful? Can we get to a peaceful place, where we deliberately devote a lot of patience to others?

Hasn’t life proven that it isn’t really what we do or what we say, but really how we do these things? We can patiently offer critique. We can patiently wait. We can patiently love. Maybe it’s just me, but I do not think the man or woman who complains and murmurs in line while waiting deserves kudos. Yeah, she waited, but it’s how she waited. She was not graceful. She was not patient. We are all guilty of this.

Waiting impatiently does what exactly? I am not a doctor, but I am pretty sure you raise your blood pressure and stress level. It makes others around you uneasy and brings unnecessary, negative attention to the waiting. I would certainly like to be the one who brings serenity to waiting and peace to others around me, even if it quite literally kills me. With a lot of practice, I am sure that peaceful patience is attainable. Practice starts now.
