Friendship
Definition: the emotions or conduct of friends; the state of being friends; a state of mutual trust and support
Do you ever reconnect with old friends and have the feeling that you never really lost touch in the first place? Even when it seems that it’s been too long, I firmly believe that it’s worth getting in touch with people who at one time were important in your life but who just seemed to have drifted away.
I am so grateful for my friends who make life worth living and memories worth remembering. Sometimes, though, I’m not great about being in touch and sometimes friends get busy with their own lives, too. But it’s always such a pleasure to hear what’s new in their worlds and to reconnect.
This Holiday Season my family wanted to do something nice for our cat, Cyrus. Cyrus thinks of himself as a hybrid of a human and a lion. He has lots of energy and is very playful. He definitely believes, that above all others, he is the ruler of our household. He is our good and loyal friend, but we wanted to give him the experience of having a friend that looks like him and will play with him to his heart’s content. Thus, we recently adopted an abandoned kitten. We named the little one Artemis after the Greek goddess of the hunt.
Even though cat and kitten were up to an expected, but rough start full of hissing and growling, they are slowly starting to adore each other and become friends. I know that by introducing them to a friend we have changed the lives of both of these kitties. They will develop a bond unlike the one they have with us non-fury ones. They will make memories together and will not be able to imagine their lives apart.
Getting this kitten to Cyrus reminded me of something that I already knew: how important it is to share our lives with others, even if it takes additional effort as our lives get busier and we move to new locations and make other friends. Friends are worth every minute spent on and with them - and so much more.
I love you, my dear friends, where ever you are in the world. At this time of year, when everyone wants to be surrounded by friends and family (and many in our families are friends too!), I hope you remember the value of friendships past and seek to rekindle them. You never know whose life really needs a little more warmth right now.
