Thoughts Affect Actions

Some of you have no doubt heard about Positive Affirmations.  Recently, I read a very interesting book that changed the way I perceive my life and what I want to get out of life through Positive Affirmations. This book is called How Would Love Respond? by Kurek Ashely, published by Benbella Books (the same house that published Dr. Linda Bacon’s Health at Every Size).

Kurek states in his book that a thought turns into an action which then creates a result.  However if that thought is a negative thought it will turn into a negative action which will then create a negative result.

However, on the flip side of this, if you have a positive thought which turns into a positive action, the only thing it can do is create a positive result.

How Thoughts About Your Weight and Size Can Affect Your Actions

As mentioned in my tip for the week ‘Use Your Imagination’ by Jon Robison, PhD, MS, “Imagine that you are, right now, at the weight that you believe will be healthier.”

This is a Positive Thought and you can make this happen by using Kurek’s formula.

For example, state your positive thought: “I am at the weight that is best for me.”

Repeat this statement both in your mind and verbally. Write it down and tape it to your bathroom mirror, on your fridge door, on your bedside table, on your car dashboard (but don’t read and drive!), on your desk and anywhere else you can think of.  Have it written where you will see it on a regular basis.

Upon doing this, you will start to really believe that you are at the weight that is best for you, and you will start taking the actions to make this a reality (i.e. not changing your weight but being healthier at that weight).

So what do you get from doing all of this?

That’s right! The only thing that can happen: a positive result!

But Remember . . .

There is more to it than this.  Saying, “I hope I get to my ideal weight,” or “If I get to my ideal weight,” will not work.  These phrases are not words of affirmation and confirmation, only maybes.  Maybe words won’t get you where you want to be (happy and healthy at your current weight). Confirmation words like “I will” are guaranteed to get you there.

The words you use must be assertive and current words - that is, words of the present.  For example, “I am at my ideal weight,” and “I will get to my ideal weight.”

Let me leave you with another quote from Kurek’s book, of which we should all take note:

“It’s the dis-ease of your mind that creates the disease of your body.”

So, until we allow our mind’s to be at ease, we will not allow our bodies to be as healthy as they can be.

Have you read Kurek’s book? What did you think? Let me know how using the affirmation works and what your affirmation is.

If confirmation words don’t work then you get further reassurances that positive thinking will yield positive results - we just have to work on making sure that when we say these positive things we believe them.
