How looking after your health can expedite your healing time
As I mentioned last time, I wanted to share with you this week the outcome of my dentist appointment. And it goes something like this…
Unfortunately, I had to return to the dentist because the only thing left for this poor tooth of mine was to be surgically removed as it was broken in two pieces.
But enough of the gory details! What I find most amazing about this whole experience is the healing time.
The afternoon I returned from the dentist, one side of my face was nearly touching the floor due to the local anesthetic; I was sent home with antibiotics and pain killers to use once the anesthetic had worn off.
However, to my surprise, late that evening and the next morning, I was only experiencing minimal pain and discomfort - and without the medicine.
My Healing Process
I believe that my efforts to care for my health generally contributed to my healing time. If I were a person who did not look after her health and saw the world in a negative way, my healing process may not have been so speedy.
As most of you have read from my previous blogs, I do a lot of Positive Reading & Thinking, and from this I utilized some of the positive processes in my tooth scenario. For instance:
1. I keep a positive light on the subject
2. I continue with usual duties and responsibilities, (though in a lighter manner)
3. I am aware of my condition, but I do not let it become an obstacle
Positive Thinking Makes a Difference
People who think of themselves as sick and debilitated and whose loved ones treat them as such can have a more challenging convalescence due to the mental impediment to getting better. One reason for this is that our brains must be receptive to healing. When they are, our bodies heal us better through their own powers of healing (along with the medicines we may have taken). This is where the placebo effect comes from.
When people believe that they are receiving medicine and receptive mentally to being healed, the difference in the quality of healing must be significantly greater for the medicine than the placebo, and this can be hard to achieve because when our bodies are open to healing, they heal themselves very well. That is why it is so hard to create new drugs that really work more than a body that believes it is getting healed.
Along the same lines, if we think negatively, we will receive negative results in our healing processes. The belief that medicine will not work and other negative thinking can hinder the effects of medication. That’s all part of our bodies‘ power.
Not only should we think positively as much as we can, but if we concentrate on our health, the healing process becomes shorter.
How about you – Are you a Positive Thinker and Healer who heals in no time, or do you find your body takes a long time to heal? I’m not saying that either of those is necessarily good or bad or related to your thinking (ailments and medicines are quite powerful in their own right) but I’d love your to let me know in the comments about the way you work.
