Leave It At the Door
As many of my clients have been training with me since last August I’d say they know me pretty well by now. And one thing they’ve learned is that it is not a great idea to bring emotional upset into their sessions. If they do, it is my job to mitigate these emotional challenges and have my clients finish their sessions feeling invigorated, loved and happy.
Have you ever heard the saying that when you go to work for the day you need to leave your problems at the door and pick them up on your way out? It may sound harsh, but this is how I feel about my training sessions (I’m such a meany, aren’t I?). However, the results of this approach totally justify the harshness
Without everyone’s problems floating around, our sessions run smoothly, allowing my clients to put their all into moving their bodies for joy and feeling good.
Taking Out the Problem Bag
At each session, I always ask my clients how their day was. If anybody hints at or says they’ve had an unpleasant day or experience, I acknowledge the information given, but don’t discuss it. We simply move on with our session. The great part about this approach is that it doesn’t let negative ideas come into our sessions and stay there.
Nine times out of ten my clients forget to pick up their problems when they leave because their sessions bring them back to a high-on-life attitude. Picking up the bag of problems is just too much trouble and no longer makes sense.
And it’s not that people are ignoring their problems - it’s when they’re brought out of the funk that their problems create that they regain the perspective that such things aren’t worth bothering with anymore or they’re simply worth solving directly and moving on from.
With practice, this can be your approach to problems, too, and regular body movement can help you deal with those problems. Rather than dwell on problems, concentrate on finding a solution to your problem and removing it from your life. When you are feeling down or have problems and you start moving your body, you’ll be amazed at the positive results.
