This week, I want to share with you the jubilation of two of my clients who successfully completed their first ever Fun Run.
Only 6 weeks ago these two could run just 200 meters - and they were extremely frightened to do so. On Sunday they completed a 5 kilometer Fun Run in which I suggested they have a target time of under 40 minutes to complete (we developed this time based on the training I had given the girls leading up to Race Day). I received a text from the girls straight after the race informing me that they had both completed the run in 33 minutes!!! Below is an excerpt from the email one of the girls sent me.
I never thought I would ever participate in a fun run. I have known people who have done it - including my mum and sister-in-law, who are extremely fit people - and I never imagined that I would have been fit enough to enter and as a result was never interested in participating. But with the training that I was provided with a slight push to do that little bit more every time, I began to want to do more and continue to do it and in the end was able to run the entire 5klm course and finish at a time that I could be proud of.

This just goes to show, you don’t have to move mountains to make a difference in your life. Both of them, 6 weeks ago, would have never thought that they were going to compete in a Fun Run and be able to do such a fantastic time. They could not believe that they could achieve such personal milestones without strenuous training. The type of training they received to complete this Fun Run comfortably and easily was by learning to take baby steps. They increased their stamina a little bit at every session, and by the end of their time working with me they felt wonderful about this healthy habit that had become a part of their lives.
That’s why this week I want you to try to move just a little bit more than you did last week. Of course, only do what feels good and certainly don’t try to overdo it. Make sure that you enjoy the movement. For a few suggestions on how to increase your movement just a little bit, check out my tip from this week.
