My Recent Fun Run

On the 9th of May 2010 four of my beautiful clients and I participated in another Fun Run called “Mothers’ Day Classic,” which was an 8 kilometer walk or run.  This event raises money for Breast Cancer Research.  When choosing Fun Runs in which to participate, I mostly gravitate towards those that help support worthwhile causes.

About two months ago I was telling you the success story of two of my clients who could only run 200 meters when we began working together but only 8 weeks later competed in and completed a 5 km Fun Run.  Well, these same two clients participated in the 8 km Mothers Day Classic Fun Run as well, and to their surprise (but much less mine!), ran the entire course.

Open Your Mind and Free Your Body

After completing this fun run, both clients shared how much less tired and sore they were after finishing this 8 km run compared to how extremely tired and sore they felt after the 5km run.

This just goes to show how well our bodies adapt to regular movement and how, once we overcome our fears of not being able to do something, the task becomes more manageable - repeatedly.

It is our blocked minds that stop us from moving.  We need to open our minds and allow them to move our bodies to where we want them to go.  90% of movement is in the mind - considering and deciding to move - and 10% is physically moving our bodies.

If you allow your mind to move your body, your body will follow.

How Support Can Go A Long Way

I would also like to offer a huge Congratulations & Thank You to all of my clients and to the other 11,000 walkers and runners who participated in this very worthwhile cause.

Some runners and walkers were wearing placards on the backs of their shirts in tribute to a loved one they had lost to Breast Cancer.  Others were raising money prior to the event for Breast Cancer Research.  The highest online fundraiser was a lady from NSW who managed to raise $17,836 in her area alone.  Now that is really saying something about how much of a difference one person can make to a very worthwhile cause.

Breast Cancer is everywhere, and a lot of people don’t think it can happen to them.  However, if you have a look around you, I bet you know somebody who has been affected by this horrible disease.  Fortunately, though, over the years, research and development have improved the situation immensely - but it’s still a life-threatening disease.  By having such worthwhile events like the Mothers’ Day Classic Fun Run maybe, just maybe we regular folk can help make a difference to these worthy causes just by participating.

Have you been fortunate enough to help in such an event or know of somebody who does?  Please share in the comments your story on what contributions you have made.

I think these charitable suggestions are just wonderful. I remember when I was little we used to have the Julie Love Walk-a-thon at my school (where I went for 9 years), and everyone would get sponsored for the distance they would go and it was this huge fun day that raised money for a good cause. This is such a great suggestion for how to truly enjoy your movement while it enriches the lives of others.
