Technology: Is It Helping?
Many of us lead hectic and jam-packed lives. Just go into the cities and watch people racing by, heads down in thought about the next task on the list, their current tardiness, or how they’ll fit “that” in to the day.
l watch these people now and wonder, do we really have balanced, less-stressful lives than before our current technology allowed us to do all that we do?
This post is not bringing technology under attack. I’m just musing about recalling, a number of years ago, people saying how the computer age was going to make our lives easier.
But has it really? I still see people running around crazily thinking of all the things they have to do and knowing that now they can be reached wherever they go.
If we can’t rely on good ol’ technology to minimize stress and help balance our lives, what can we look to?
We Are Each So Different
Each of us leads a very different life. That’s brilliant, and it’s what gives us such a wonderful and colorful world to live in.
This being the case, however, we cannot expect to create some system that accommodates everybody’s life in order to maintain the same weekly health routine for everyone. And in a certain sense, thank goodness! We’re not robots, but individuals with unique needs.
However, we can - as individuals - look at our own weekly routines, in order to make our lives less stressful and balanced.
Finding Time to Take Care of Myself
I gathered up my weekly calendar one day, laid it on the floor and wrote in all of my daily routines (getting ready in the morning, making lunch for the kids, etc.), including start time and duration. Then, I wrote in my weekly, ongoing scheduled appointments.
Next, I wrote in my one-off appointments for that particular week (e.g. get hair done, birthday reminders, meeting, etc.).
At this point, it was time to look into fitting myself in. I looked at my calendar to see where I could add my own health and fitness regime - one that always brings a greater sense of calm and peace - so that I could stick to it.
And, funny enough - despite what we all think about there never being enough time for such things - there was time in my week for me. I just had to lay it all out on paper and find it. Now, I have a less stressed life because the time to take care of myself has been properly allocated.
Did you take the time to arrange your schedule this week to fit in time for your health and wellbeing? Why or why not? I would love to hear what you got out of arranging your routine: please share with me in the comments if this has helped you.
