Last week, I introduced you to the work of Jon Robison, PhD, MS and his article, “10 Things You Can Do Right Now To Ease Concerns About Your Weight and Improve Your Health.”
Dr. Robison has been a pioneer in the Health @ Every Size field, working passionately to encourage health care providers to examine their biases regarding weight and health. If you missed my blog last week, click here to check that out and then come back for the conclusion of the two part series on the Health-Centered Approach.
#5 – Consider Moving Your Body
Find ways to move your body that are social and pleasurable. Fitness is a more important indicator of health than fatness.
#6 – Declare Your Independence
Don’t let anyone tell you how to eat, what to eat or how much to eat to lose weight.
#7 – Listen to Your Internal Wisdom
Begin paying attention to your internal signals of hunger and fullness.
#8 – Consider Dr. Robison’s Dietary Guidelines:
• Enjoy your food
• Eat a wide variety of foods
• Pay attention to internal signals
• Share your food with someone who is needy
#9 – Take Notice of What Really Matters
Appreciate the changes that occur over time with this approach. Do you feel differently (physically or emotionally)? Are you spending less time worrying about your weight and what you eat? Are you able to spend more time living your life?
#10 – Celebrate
Congratulate yourself for taking important steps to improving your health.
DId you uncover any biases you have related to health and nutrition?
I would love to hear your reactions to Dr. Robison’s suggestions – and if you shared the blog with anyone new to the concepts. Please be sure to add your comments below so we can dialogue!
Until then, be well!
