Allow me to introduce you to Brigid Berlin.
The consumate IT girl…
The Warhol super-star…
Fat, sassy, smart, sexy, pop-diva par excellence.
Back in the 60s, Brigid Berlin was the center of the art-world; anyone who was anyone knew her, loved her, wanted to be her.
“My mother wanted me to be a slim, respectable socialite,” says Brigid. “Instead, I became an overweight troublemaker.”
Brigid Berlin is famous for her risque collaborative art projects. In fact, she had a tremendous amount of influence over Andy Warhol. In her famous celebrations of her body, she would create “Tit Paintings”—where she would dip her breasts into multi-colored paints and then create a “print” by pressing them down onto canvas or paper. Oftentimes she would do this publicly, integrating visual art and performance art.
“I think that she’s the most un-self-conscious nude person,” said film-maker Chris Waters. “She said this is totally not about nudity, this is about, you know, art.”
Often naked, always the center of the party, with Polariod camera and tape-recorder always in tow, Brigid Berlin documented EVERYTHING.
If your curiosity is piqued, check out her documentary: Pie in the Sky: The Brigid Berlin Story.
Stay sassy!
